1st National Conference of Nepalese society of Neurosurgeons

The Nepalese society of Neurosurgeons (NESON)
18-20 April 2009, Kathmandu, Nepal

The Nepalese society of Neurosurgeons (NESON), hosted the 1st National conference with the theme “Neurosurgery; The South Asian Perspective” on 18 – 20 April 2009. The conference was a huge success since there were WFNS tutors to educate the native neurosurgeons. The program was a 3 day course where 1 and a half day course, 18-19 April, was taken up by the WFNS tutors and the rest, 19-20 April, was taken by the local neurosurgeons.

The program was inaugurated by Prof. Devkota, the President of NESON and Prof. M. Choux, the Honorary President of WFNS by lightening of Panas.

The program started sharp at 8 am on the 18th of April with an Opening remark from Dr. Basant Pant, General Secretary of NESON followed by an inspiring welcome-speech from Prof. UP Devkota.

The Conference began its start with Prof. Sousa’s, President of WFNS, presentation on the WFNS course followed by the existing achievements of Neurosurgery from all around the globe.

Shortly after the course came to an end the guests were hosted to the Hotel Garden for the Welcome Dinner cum Cultural Program. An ambience of good food and a portrayal of Nepalese folk culture surely made the evening complete.

On the 19th, NESON and WFNS came together for a joint meeting where it was decided that NESON would be eligible to apply for WFNS membership.  On the night of 19th, there was a banquet dinner where foreign delegates were presented with a souvenir of Pashmina shawl.

20th of April was the last day for the conference; the day too went fine and lastly ended with the presentations from national doctors and distribution of certificates.

The total numbers of participant were 150, 21 foreign delegates, 9 WFNS tutors, 28 Organizers and 92 other participants.
The program began and ended exactly on time and time management is the main strength of the program. Active participation from the audience and the tutors were vividly seen and this too is the strength of the program. Both on screen management and off screen management went strong resulting the conference to be a big success.
