Stereotactic and functional
neurosurgery is a growing field in neurosurgery. We are
the first department to introduce and start stereotactic
surgery in this country. Wide range of surgeries is been
practiced at KMH through stereotactic:
-
Aspiration of intracerebral hematoma
- Tumor
biopsy
- Thalamotomy for tremor in Parkinson
disease, essential tremor
- Pallidotomy for
writer’s cramp, Parkinson’s disease.
Many other
functional surgeries like Epilepsy surgery, surgery for
spastic CP including SDR, selective peripheral
neurotomies, and spasmodic torticollis are carried out
here. The Epilepsy Surgery Program is internationally
recognized as a leader in innovative surgery for
intracerebral diseases associated with medically
intractable epilepsy.
We are proud, being the
first department in this country to start epilepsy
surgery, which we started 3 years back. We have operated
intractable CPS with Temporal lobectomy, selective
amygdala-hippocampectomy and corpus callosotomy for drop
attacks. |
