phect-NEPAL - Public Health Concern Trust - Introduction

The Premises

Despite all efforts in development made in Nepal over the last several decades, for the majority of the Nepalese life still remains well below a satisfactory level. Irrational distribution of resources and their mismanagement grossly marginalized most of the population, making people unable to meet their basic needs. With the advent of democracy in 1990, naturally, there were rising expectations of qualitative changes in life including health. A clear vision of development had become a prerequisite to initiate planning and action to move in this direction. Visibly, the government was not adequately prepared for this. There was a need for NGOs to step in to act as partner of national development. In this background, phect-NEPAL came into existence in 1991 along with many other NGOs.

Status
phect - NEPAL is a secular, non-political, not for making profit, national level non-governmental organization committed in health development. It was founded in 1991 and is governed by an independent Executive Board. In addition, an advisory team comprising experts of different fields supports it. phect-NEPAL is registered with the Social Welfare Council and District Administration Office, Katmandu. The phect-NEPAL Constitution is the principal guiding document of the organization.

Visiion / Mission / Goal

Recognizing that HEALTH is the individual’s ability to achieve, enjoy and maintain a harmonic relationship with his / her being and nature at large, phect-NEPAL has declared its MISSION to work for a society with healthy people.

The direction of phect-NEPAL is guided by the VISION"Empowerment of people through health action".

phect-NEPAL aims to create a model of sustainable health care system based on principles of equity, social justice, people’s participation and self reliance

Thus, having been evolved through more than a decade of existence, phect-NEPAL is taking the shape of a movement rather than a mere organization.
